How do we embed Life Cycle Assessment in the process of innovating new ideas, products and services?

In this collaboration between Innovate UK Business Connect and the Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI), we will look at the ways in which innovators need to consider the full life cycle development of their inventions, and the end-of-life processes to reduce their impact on the environment. This life cycle assessment (LCA) planning should occur at the early stages of innovation. However, individual or small teams of innovators do not always possess the LCA expertise needed. The tools available instead remain with LCA specialists that may operate outside the innovators’ domain.

Through this workshop, we aim to bridge the gap between innovation and LCA, where we will hear from companies with their specific challenges, as well as from LCA experts detailing their research. We will then come together in groups to discuss these challenges and possible solutions.

There is potential funding available to collaborate with the IMI on research ideas originating from the workshop.

Who is the workshop for?

Experts from business and academic institutions that have LCA experience, and/or an enthusiasm to tackle this challenge whether that be from a mathematical, AI, engineering, socio-economic, geographical, etc., or personal perspective. As well, anyone involved in innovation, from sole entrepreneurs through to members of the innovation team of a SME.
