IMI’s expertise is available to bring mathematical impact to research and consultancy projects with academic and non-academic partners.

Come and talk to us

If you’re based on campus, IMI now hosts a weekly drop-in every Wednesday, 10–11am, in our offices in 4ES, level 4.  These informal sessions require no appointment and are open to all.  They are a chance to discuss project ideas over a tea/coffee, explore possible collaborations, ask about MIRA support, or find out more about IMI.

Industrial partnerships

Industrial challenges are complex. Mathematics and statistics are ideally placed to understand and manage that complexity. We have a strong track record of working with industry to explore and address mathematically-based company challenges. Please contact us to discuss how IMI can engage with your company.

Academic partnerships

The IMI collaborates with academics from across the University of Bath and is expanding its collaborative network to other academic institutions.  Academics at the University of Bath can benefit from:

  • apply for IMI small grants (fast and flexible sources of funding open to the whole university for up to £5,000)
  • working with one of IMI’s Mathematical Innovation Research Associates (MIRAs) to help develop the mathematical aspect of a grant submission, provided they cost in the MIRA’s time into the submission to help deliver this component of the grant.
  • apply for a financial contribution into grants submitted (e.g. additional travel or visitor funds, running a workshop, extending the length of a postdoc, purchase of computing equipment etc.), awarded on successful grant capture.
  • write into grant applications administrative support from the IMI for research activities (e.g. coordinating a workshop or congress).
  • receive additional strategic support to develop their large grant application(s) or industrial research project(s), e.g. helping with impact, connecting to industry, attracting other resources to proposal submissions.
  • Fellows’ grant-funded projects will be described on the IMI webpages thereby increasing visibility, impact and growth of successful projects. The IMI will continue to help Academic Fellows with successful grant capture to leverage follow-on-funding, impact and other opportunities.
