The impact of climate change on agriculture in developing countries

Cocoa harvest in Ghana and climate change

Changes in climate are also having an impact on the agriculture in developing countries. In 2017, IMI (working with the KTN) organised a three day study group focusing on mathematical models for agriculture. This led to an IMI MIRA project modelling the impact of climate change on the cocoa harvest in Ghana. The IMI developed a model based on differential delay equations which was able to predict the changes in the cocoa harvest given future climatic variables.

This model is now being developed further and tested against harvest data, in close collaboration with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN)
