Post-COVID Economic Recovery Scoping and Virtual Study Group : Healthcare meeting 22 September 2021

The goal of these meetings is to consider both the positive and negative aspects of the impact of COVID and look at opportunities where mathematical modelling can help address how the future of work, healthcare and travel are meshed into the fabric of society. Each meeting will focus on a particular economic sector hit by the pandemic.

Healthcare meeting – 1pm-4.30pm 22nd September 2021

In this meeting we will look at how the many aspects of healthcare have been impacted by the need to prioritise resources on the Covid-19 pandemic. These include care for the elderly, looking after patients with chronic pain, heart operations, and problems with mental health. The meeting will have a series of short presentations from healthcare professionals who will outline health and healthcare issues that have been exacerbated post-Covid, combined with IMI-led facilitated breakout discussions that will examine potential mathematical solutions to the problems described.

We have speakers from various institutions coming to discuss issues within healthcare including:

  • NHS Southwest
  • Mayden – focusing on mental health
  • RUH – focusing on rheumatism
  • University of Southampton – focusing on cardio-vascular
  • University of Bath – focusing on issues around chronic pain
  • University of Bath – focusing on issues around healthy ageing
