Oliver is a statistician and data analyst who specialises in sports modelling, state-space modelling and anomaly detection. His research interests include Markov chains, time series analysis, and Gaussian processes.
Prior to joining the IMI, Oliver was a Statistical Consultant at Lancaster University Management School. During his time there he worked with North West Air Ambulance on a project investigating the factors affecting air ambulance stand-down rates. This exploratory project allowed NWAA to understand regional and temporal trends in order to drive future efficiencies. His PhD project investigated match-fixing in tennis by analysing betting odds for anomalies using Gaussian processes and state space modelling.
Oliver completed his PhD and MRes in Statistics and Operations Research at the STOR-i Centre for Doctoral Training at Lancaster University, and has an MMath in Mathematics from Durham University.
