Dr Nicola Bailey is a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and a member of the Centre for Power Transmission & Motion Control and Turbomachinery Research Centre. Her research interests are centred around improving the understanding and advancement of complex nonlinear mechanical systems for next generation technology in the fields of robotics, ultra-precision manufacturing mechanisms and turbomachinery. Nicky has successfully secured funding from the EPSRC and Innovate UK. As part of her IMI fellowship she will be working to develop a novel prosthetic hand with high degrees of freedom. In particular, working with Ben Metcalfe and Matt Nunes to develop novel upper-limb prostheses using robust and computationally efficient learning control methodologies that are able to adapt to daily variability in individual users.
